Jewelry Stores – Tips for Choosing the Right One

Written by Vincent Belegaud

How do you choose the right jewelry store to buy your ring from? There are many factors to consider. Here are the things you should think about before you make your purchase.

Financing Options

Many smaller stores simply don’t have the ability or financial means to extend lines of credit for their customers.

If you intend to buy with cash, then that’s not an issue. However, if you’re looking for a store that will allow you to pay for your ring over a longer period of time, then you may want to work with a more established jewelry store.

Do They Help Maintain the Ring?

Many reputable, established jewelry stores will not only sell you a ring, but also help you maintain your ring.

They’ll help you with cleaning your rings on a regular basis as well as provide routine maintenance. For example, if the diamond feels a little loose, they’ll easily fix that for you.

Make sure to ask about what kind of services they offer before you purchase.

Prices, Selection and Expertise

You should of course consider their prices, selection and expertise when you make your purchase.
Oftentimes you’ll find specialty stores with incredible selection and expertise, but for very high prices. This is because some jewelers specialize in specific types of exotic rings and jewelry.

On the other hand, you have well known outlets and mall stores that provide high quality rings, though they tend to be less exotic. You’ll be able to get rings at more affordable rates here, because these stores buy their diamonds and rings at wholesale prices and pass those savings to consumers.

Are They a Certified Jeweler?

If you’re buying from a smaller store, one thing to check for is whether or not they’re certified.

Check to see if they’re certified with the American Society of Appraisers or other recognized jewelry organization.

What Kind of Guarantee Do They Offer?

Some jewelers will offer you an “if it breaks, we’ll replace it” warranty. Others will give you a “return it for 100% money back, no questions asked policy.”
Various retailers will have different kinds of warranties and return policies. This is absolutely something you should factor into your decision making process.

One crucial piece to this is the return policy directly after you buy. Just in case your loved one doesn’t love the ring, you want to be able to bring it back for a full refund without too much hassle, even if there was nothing wrong with the ring.

Online or Offline?

Should you buy your ring online or offline?

If you buy from an offline store, you get the benefit of being able to talk to someone in person and ask questions. You also get to see the ring in real life before making your purchase.

Online on the other hand, you tend to spend less money. The choice is between seeing the ring in real life, versus affordability.

These are some of the main points to consider when you’re selecting a jewelry store.
